Blending in with their country of choice is something most students studying abroad strive to do. After all, no one wants to look like a tourist for more than a month. Before heading to your destination, do some research on the local clothing styles. A little time spent learning about acceptable fashion will prevent you from accidentally offending the locals and looking foolish. Here are a few examples of appropriate clothing in different countries:
The first week went by in a blur. Everyday was a different adventure, I felt like an explorer. I noticed myself doing random activities with random people from all over the world. I also remember thinking to myself I must have had a guardian angel by my side because I was lucky enough to book a bed in a hostel two blocks from the my new university. Since I had arrived in Australia mid-week before orientation I found myself in dire need to meet new people, find a permanent place to stay and get familiar with the area. (more…)
It was a sunny Bay Area day when I departed from San Francisco airport. Thrilled to begin the next six months of my life in a foreign destination, but extremely anxious and downright frightened by the thought of not knowing what could happen once I landed. It all seemed unreal at times. 18 hours after departing I landed at my new home. While walking through the terminal it felt like I was in the twilight zone. I had left San Francisco in the middle of summer and landed in Sydney mid-winter. The people looked the same and even the building structures seemed reminiscent of home but the strong Australian accent along with phrases like ” G’day mate” let me know I was a long way from home.
